Details announced for July 4th parade

The Lawncrest July 4th Celebration will mark its 99th anniversary this year.

The theme will be “A Strong Community.”

A parade will kick off at 9 a.m. at Rising Sun Avenue and Martins Mill Road. It will travel south on Rising Sun Avenue to the Lawncrest Recreation Center, at Comly Street, where the day’s activities will take place.

The parade will feature armed services groups, antique cars, community groups, churches, floats and local sports team mascots. The grand marshals will be the past presidents and members of the Women’s Club of Lawncrest. Gary Weaver will be honored for his volunteer work with the July 4 committee.

An American flag-raising ceremony will be conducted by local veterans following the parade.

A flea market will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. To become a vendor, call Steve at 267–467–0034.

Other activities will include a food court (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.); car show (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.); paintball (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.); children’s rides (11 a.m. to 3 p.m.); live musical entertainment (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.); and bingo (11 a.m. to 5 p.m.).

There will also be a magic show, performances by drill teams, raffles, games, prizes and T-shirt sales.

The celebration will conclude with fireworks at dusk.

The rain date is Saturday, July 5.

The budget is $31,000. Donations can be sent to Lawncrest 4th of July Committee, P.O. Box 24656, Philadelphia, PA 19111.

Or, donations can be made on June 17 at the Lawncrest Community Association meeting, scheduled for 7 p.m. at St. William parish hall, at Argyle and Robbins streets.
